# Reconnaissance

## What is reconnaissance?

Reconnaissance is a preparatory phase that can precede more aggressive tactics as attackers map out network resources, discover services, identify weaknesses, and plan their entry points. Alerts in this category are designed to detect various forms of reconnaissance, such as port scanning, domain reconnaissance, and social engineering attempts. 

By providing real-time alerts on such activities, n.Scope NDR enables security teams to address potential threats before they escalate into breaches preemptively.
